The design, which also featured Phillip Jeffries Contract, was created by Gensler for the annual fundraising event held during BDNY hospitality trade show
It was a memorable night for Emser Tile at The Hospitality Industry Network’s (NEWH) Product Runway event held during BDNY 2019. Ten custom ensembles debuted on the Sony Hall runway in the Paramount Hotel. By evening’s end, Gensler’s Cabaret-inspired design, featuring Emser Tile and Phillip Jeffries Contract, was chosen as best overall design.
Product Runway’s 2019 theme was “A World of Inspiration,” and featured designs from 10 award-winning design firms, paired with their chosen manufacturers. Hospitality industry leaders served as judges for the event and included:
- Damon Lawrence, co-founder & creative director, Homage Hospitality
- Kerrie Murphy, director of design & planning, Hyatt Hotels Corporation
- Sam Suleman, executive vice president, Equinox
A custom tiled headpiece and corset from Emser Tile and dramatic red draped wallcovering dress from Phillip Jeffries comprised the winning look. The Gensler design team included Cristina Arrea, Angie Tan and Sara Thomas, who also modeled the design. The look was inspired by Cabaret, reflecting “both the traditional, yet minimal, attire…and the detailing and drapery from the interior venue…shown through asymmetry between tile and wallpaper, while keeping mystery and maintaining the theatrical performance.” (Description sourced from the Product Runway event program)
“We are honored to be part of this year’s Product Runway overall winning design, and we want to thank Gensler and NEWH for involving us in this fun and important fundraising event,” said Mara Villanueva Heras, vice president of marketing, Emser Tile. “Through the collaboration with Gensler and Phillip Jeffries we were able to be part of a unique runway-ready look, all while executing one of Emser’s main objectives — to support the bright minds who will soon lead the design industry.”
“This year’s Product Runway designs all displayed beautiful artistry, and the judges were tasked with a hard job of choosing just one overall winner,” said Amanda Tomlinson, president, NYC NEWH chapter. “We congratulate Gensler, Phillip Jeffries and Emser Tile on their well-deserved win!”
Held on the Sunday of BDNY, Product Runway is one of two fundraising events hosted by the NYC chapter of NEWH each year. This year’s Product Runway event raised over $50,000 for ten scholarship recipients studying architecture, interior design, hotel management or culinary arts within the NYC chapter of NEWH.
