“Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.” - Pablo Picasso

Whether looking to online resources or reflecting back on the design greats of our past, we’re never short of avenues for exploration. Today, we dive into five ways that inspiration is all around us in both expected and unexpected avenues.

Interior design has always had roots in the art world. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, popularly known as The Met, holds rotating art exhibitions and events for constant inspiration. You can also drop in for workshops and artist demonstrations. Not located in New York City? Visit your local art or history museum to reflect and discover.

From architecture to technology to travel, use an online curated resource like Design Milk for daily doses of inspiration specific to your interests. Dive into columns ranging from deconstructing innovative materials to the ‘Friday Five’ where designers and architects share what is inspiring them.

MasterClass

As you uncover the latest techniques, it’s also nice to revisit the basics, especially from industry pioneers. In an online webinar-type of course, Frank Gehry shares his philosophy on architecture, design, and art in 17 video lessons that you can watch on your own time with MasterClass. Or, consider a class outside of your realm for a new perspective, like Diane Von Furstenberg’s building a fashion brand.
