12 Events Sparking Design Inspiration Each Month of 2019

January 23-25: The International Surface Event
Las Vegas, Nevada

Every January, The International Surface Event calls all architects, designers, contractors, and industry specialists to Las Vegas to push the boundaries of the surface. This year, Houzz will deliver its 2019 Kitchen & Bath Industry Report, Women in Stone showcases a power of communication workshop, and celebrity designer Jennifer Farrell holds an on-site Design Hot Seat Show. Emser Tile is proud to bring to life industry trends through our latest product introductions at booth 5647 — to be announced next week on the blog.


February 19-21: International Builders’ Show
Las Vegas, Nevada

2019 marks the 75th International Builders’ Show organized by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). With custom home tours — including The New American Home in which you may find a few familiar Emser Tile series — a high-performance building zone, and the latest in home technologies, the annual trade show is a can’t miss for those in the builder and building materials industries. Emser Tile will showcase at Central Hall, Booth C7237.


March 13-17: Architecture & Design Film Festival: LA
Los Angeles, California 

The closest experience to exploring inspiring architecture in person is through the poignant medium of film. The Architecture & Design Film Festival, hosted across the country each year, will surface in Los Angeles in March. Celebrate the unique spirit of architecture and design by entertaining, engaging and educating those excited about design. A curated schedule of films, discussion and events provide a deeper understanding of architectural design and influence in the bustling setting of L.A.


April 9-14: Milan Design Week
Milan, Italy

One of the most renowned global gatherings in the industry, Milan Design Week features the best of the best in furniture, lighting, and more. Since 2015, the week has been home to the Workplace3.0 exhibition — “an irreplaceable think tank for finding out about and understanding upcoming necessary changes to workspaces.” Considering the trip?


May 15-17: HD Expo
Las Vegas, Nevada

Kick off the summer with a vibrant show inspiring today’s hospitality designs. HD Expo, “an experience for the senses,” features three days of inspiration, education, and new products to explore. With wellness tourism on the rise, this year’s show will host a Wellness Pavilion with thought leaders redefining the market.


June 6-8: AIA Conference on Architecture
Las Vegas, Nevada 

Las Vegas will transform into an architect’s playground in early June. This year’s AIA Conference on Architecture theme is “Blueprint for a Better Future” and sessions will include artificial intelligence, the latest in WELL design, and architecture tours of Frank Gehry’s Lou Ruvo Brain Center.


July 5-8: Market Art + Design
Bridgehampton, New York

Modern art is the perfect complement to today’s popular neutral surfaces, like concrete-look tile. Eighty top galleries present the best in contemporary art and design in The Bridgehampton Museum.


August 1-3: Nantucket by Design
Nantucket, Massachusetts 

Nantucket’s summer season is known for beautiful weather and water — a beautiful destination to escape to. The annual Nantucket Historical Association event celebrates “the island’s unique influence on American design with engaging lectures, previewing an antique show, lively panel discussions, and both intimate and grand gatherings.”


September (Date TBD): Art Swagger
Los Angeles, California

For the last eight years, Art Swagger has “been drawing the Los Angeles architectural and design community closer through art and charity.” Local design firms open their doors in the evening to showcase work from a diverse group of artists. The event benefits Free Arts, an organization who aids local children who have experienced hardships. Emser Tile was proud to sponsor last year’s event.


October 7: World Architecture Day

Established in 2005 by the Union International des Architects, World Architecture Day shows appreciation for architects’ work and celebrates their great creations. World Architecture Day can be celebrated wherever you are - from admiring local historic buildings to studying architecture icons of our past. In Washington D.C., the National Building Museum typically hosts special events with exclusive, behind-the-scenes tours.


November (Date TBD): MAD Ball
New York City, New York

The Museum of Arts and Design’s annual ball and art-filled gala honors luminaries from the worlds of art, fashion, real estate, and design. The fundraiser helps fund MAD’s education, publication and exhibition programs, and general operations — inspiring thousands of people each year to push art and design forward.


December 5-8: Art Basel | Miami Beach
Miami, Florida

Leading galleries from nearly every continent will showcase modern and contemporary art, and highlight the latest generation of up-and-coming artists at Art Basel in Miami Beach. You’ll find paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works, as well as creative and inspiring conversations.
